Flash aka- Flashers, Mr. Flash, Flasher Dude, Buddy Flash, Big Boy, Old Man: he was about the best dog you could ask for! He was the best pillow to lie your head on, the best alarm clock- consistently waking me up at 5AM to eat, the best at getting along with any person or animal, the best at dealing with my foster dogs (he did not mind having his ears chewed on or being pulled on/stepped on), the best swimmer, the best at just relaxing, the best at not doing what I asked but still getting a treat (yes, he…
My name is Yogi; I am a 19 month old Border-collie/Shepard mix. I am what you humans would call a throw-away dog. I lived with a couple in their 30s; they had three really fun kids! One day there was a very somber tone around everybody. The kids didn't even want to play with me. Then they started packing up the house and were moving to some place called Miami!! Well I also had a dog friend named Oscar, he was allowed in the house and I wasn't for some reason. He also fought with me over the food- our…
One day around 2007 in the spring, my wife and I were sitting outside enjoying the day, when we saw a mother cat and her two offspring- both females- in our driveway. The kittens were maybe four weeks old, still nursing from their mother. None of the three looked the same. Momma kitty was grey and white striped. Her kittens were both calico, one a beautiful gold and black color, who we named Goldie. The other kitten was mostly black with a few patches of tan so her name became Blackie. We immediately fell in love with all three of…
Warning! These pictures are disturbing! This is the story of Lucian and two other dogs. They were left to die locked in a basement when their owners had to move. Luckily, a good Samaritan found the dogs and turned them over the Luv-A-Bulls Rescue group. They were able to get the dogs medical care via their veterinarian. We were more than willing to donate for the continuing care of Lucian and the other dogs. Here is an article about Lucian: http://www.wdtn.com/dpp/news/dog-found-abandoned,-starved Unfortunately the laws in the state where this occurred (Ohio) are not very strict when it comes to animal…
UPDATE! SWEETIE has a clean bill of health and is up for adoption! ;)   She's the cutest no-ear dog I've ever seen! Original Article Below: WARNING! The pictures below are graphic. Thanks to Smiling Dog Rescue in Tucson, AZ for helping this dog. This information was taken from examiner.com (http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-2111-Tacoma-Dogs-Examiner~y2010m5d19-Brutal-attack-leaves-an-innocent-dog-desperately-fighting-for-her-life--Warning-Graphic-photos) "Many people mistakenly believe that all pit bulls are vicious killers -- born to fight and kill. They choose to believe that, given the opportunity, these dogs will be eager to enter a fray, happy to draw blood. Meet Sweetie, a 3-year-old pit bull that was brutally attacked by…
This is Chewy. She has lived on a chain for 2+ years. Her owners were willing to try to make her life better but did not have the funds to build a fence so Chewy continued to live on the chain until Annick Popowich was able to help! She was able to raise funds (including a donation from Randall's Rescue) in order to get enough moeny to buy the fencing supplies. Annick and her husband Jeff were able to put the fence up a few weeks later. (I would have helped if I was not 33 hours away!) Now Chewy…
Here is information about Celine from Best Friends website (www.bestfriends.org): "Rescued from Hurricane Katrina as a puppy, Celine was brought to Florida and adopted. But five years later, this sweet, friendly dog was found as a stray in rough shape. Luckily, she then came to Best Friends, where she's getting the nutrition, vet care and TLC she needs to make a full recovery. She's also doing so great in doggie school that she's on her way to being a Good Canine Citizen! Born in 2005, Celine really likes people and loves kids! She's also good with other dogs. After having…
This is the story of Kanoa, formerly known as Baby. Baby was found as a stray and lived all her life on a chain for almost 5 years. She wasn't provided with any shelter, never went on walks, never got any attention, and was completely ignored by her family. Annick Popowich, a Best Friend's Employee, heard of Baby when a friend told her the dog "will be killed in a matter of a week" if no home could be found. That's when she stepped in and rescued her. She changed Baby's name to Kanoa, meaning "the free one" in Hawaiian.…
This is the story of a wonderful pit bull named Bunker. Bunker was one of the many casualties of Hurricane Katrina like many, many other animals. After the storm, Bunker made his way to shelter on a golf course in an upscale area in the West Bank of New Orleans. He was living on the 9th hole when the residents of the community decided to get help in getting him removed. That is when Best Friends Animal Society was called in to help. With the assistance of a trapper they were able to catch Bunker with a tranquilizer gun. Up…
